Your lucid comment could be an essay in itself if you expand on it a bit. Yes, we downplay the sordid treatment meted out to Chinese labor imported by usa to work in mines and on railroads. How awful to be denied entry into usa after surviving titanic tragedy! As you say, it was diabolical of the British to use opium as a tool of disempowerment. In India, they did worse. Thumbs of cotton weavers were chopped off so that British cotton could flood markets. Churchill is infamous for his role in causing the great famine in India and potato famine in Ireland too I think. Insanity of capitalism.
