Excellent article. Yes, your articulation of Tawaifi culture is accurate and well-rendered.

It is indeed a pity we subcontinentals fail to recognize the vitality of that culture. Nawabs and elites would send their sons to learn poetry and Tameez ( elegant manners ) from courtesans who were born into a culture of the performing arts and poetry.

Many courtesans married into rich families brought knowledge of song and dance to austerity of Pakistan after partition.

Thank you for a befitting tribute to them.
