Yes, you get used to the violence. I’m from lahore. My daughter was at LAS when the Naval Academy in GOR was bombed. Our house shook with the force of the blast and windows shattered.

My first thought was, oh God, it’s the American school. Or Aitchison College. Two days later, it was business as usual, I knew my kid was safe. How awful.

I lived in dread while my child finished high school. She grew up in DC and looked and behaved like a foreigner. As you said, she was escorted to school and back every day. When she graduated and left for UPenn, we could finally breathe.

Things are different now. I feel safe from that breed of violence. It’s the traffic that’s terrifying!
