We Have Fallen. So Fast. So Deep.

~ I rummage for answers ~

There are times

when I,

a little like a

philosopher

of old,

a medieval

theologian,

or a wily charlatan

am tempted

to grab

a fistful of

purple night

or edge of

profundity

in a sacred verse

and hold it fast

to my breast

behind

a locked door.

I rummage for answers.

I want to know

why carnivals wither,

flowers weep.

I want to know

why school kids

go hungry

for lack of a dollar,

why children kill

Children.

I want to know

Why we have fallen.

So fast. So deep.

What silver spell

might wake up
