The white world colonized the rest of of the world for centuries, scuttling off with stolen resources. Any infrastructure which was built,e.g. railways, roads etc was built to transport stolen goods, from spices to diamonds, to ports from which they were transported home to England and Europe. Those of us who think the great White Sahibs were altruistic are sadly a deluded lot. Apartheid societies were carefully organized. Nothing was for the natives. Read Shashi Tharoor’s ‘Inglorious Empire.’ You’ll get the idea. The colonists left reluctantly but a legacy of their setup remains with us — the city I come from clearly functions along apartheid lines. There is virtually no housing for poor people in city centers.
