The death throes of an empire which screwed the third world.

I find it hard to forgive Britain’s policy of ‘divide and rule.’ It was so inhuman that it destroyed cultures which had coexisted peacefully for centuries and caused violence and bloodshed which we have not forgotten. Overnight best friends became enemies. I refer to the Indian subcontinent. Having pillaged and robbed India for decades they were finally driven out leaving a ‘scorched earth’ legacy. A haphazard, bizarre division of land took place. India became two countries and Pakistan mostly Muslim, was created, East and West Pakistan. Two far-flung wings separated by swathes of India. Of course the inevitable happened. The East broke free — Bangladesh — after a bloodbath and atrocities committed by Pakistan army. And now Islamic fundamentalism has swallowed Pakistan.

That’s our British legacy. I can live without channel 4, BBC and feel a little sad for beleaguered middle class Brits for losing healthcare but forgive me if I don’t bleed for England. Sayonara, Britannia.
