Naiza’s work is indeed admirable. I’m a poet/artist, Pakistani American, though these days I’m not proud of the latter.
I feel a bit schizophrenic caught between gravitational pulls. However, it’s also enriching and inspirational. A lot of my poetry and art synthesizes not only my experiences but also cultural layers built upon old old stones of history of the subcontinent.
It’s an exciting time here in Pakistan. Security situation has faded into the background. Art and music are very much alive. The turmoil meme is looking fatigued now.
As for Lahore Literary Festival, security was not an issue this year. The festival was hijacked by non literary interests. Disappointing. The very first one was the best. Exciting, novel, cut across classes. Bright young faces lined auditoriums. It’s become elitist. Sadly.
While in America I feel like the ‘other.’ Wasn’t like that five years ago. My romance with USA is in dire danger of foundering on rocks!
Thanks for a good read.
