Many of us who were sent to ‘English medium schools’ lost out on Urdu and Punjabi. And other regional languages. Punjab seems to have borne the brunt of East India Company depredations. Quite a few collaborators were knighted! And gifted swathes of choice lands which are still worked by serfs! That’s where this particular feudal system, a curse, has retarded growth of the country.
Unfortunately, it did not occur to mr. Jinnah to mandate abolition of feudal system. Mr. Nehru was more astute. Raja and maharaja were promptly stripped of power. Divested of palaces and land. Smartest move ever.
Today, feudals in Pakistan are a power elite, in politics and industry. Alas education has never been a priority.
