~ a poem ~

“Kintsukuroi (“golden mend”) is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery using lacquer resin laced with gold or silver. As well as a nifty form of repair, kintsukuroi has a deeper philosophical significance.”

Now

Dr. Shapiro*

was a very fine man

he never touched me,

oh no!

not even with words.

Ah, that was early days…

You are not a fish he said,

though scales

I see,

seal your eyes.

You are not

a creature of heaven

even if

you carry feathers

on your back and

attempt flight.

He wore a knitted tie

and the face of a

biblical martyr,

but with

blue eyes

and golden hair,

— you understand

how that can be

anomalous

in a brown desert —

and my fantasies
