Is there even a question?
But of course USA should’ve airlifted him out of Pakistan! There were promises made. You have to understand — and of course Pakistan was going to jail him —Dr. Afridi was a ‘collaborator’ to the religious right which is substantial and those who thought Pakistan’s sovereignty had been violated by the allegedly covert usa operation. Osama sympathizers aplenty.
My personal opinion is that Pakistan army was complicit but again, didn’t want too antagonize the above groups. So it went mum.
We have not won too many popularity contests in that part of the world. And with good reason. Our behavior has been cavalier at best. Drone attacks radicalized the young. I’ve seen the horrific consequences of our so-called surgical strikes — as a matter of fact, Warren Weinstein who was abducted, no one knows by who, was held for a long time.
We didn’t want to pay the ransom Al Qaida demanded. He was passed around from one group to another. USA surgically bombed and leveled the compound where he was held captive.

Not only did we destroy families but Weinstein was killed in that. So much for our top notch intel! It was very sad. He had actually done some good work up north and didn’t deserve to die. A terrible loss.
Dr. Afridi in jail? Was more for his protection - he would’ve been lynched otherwise. That’s what extremists do best.
We abandon Allies at our own convenience. Rushed departure from Afghanistan was asinine. Do you know how many afghans who worked closely with usa or not, were massacred?? Entire families? Hundreds. Unnecessary tragedy. I can’t think of a reason why we abandoned them. People falling off planes. Not a pretty sight. Biden was too desperate to appease his electorate. The mind boggles.
