In my view, anyone who cares about the planet and actively contributes to its well-being, be it cleaning rivers or writing articles like Umair does, is a good person, generally. Of course if it’s a man who bashes his wife no matter what ‘good’ he does in the way of charity etc, is truly evil. Too many grey areas here though. A Zionist torturer is pure evil. Like nazi level evil. I find it useful to maintain flexibility in one’s understanding of the nature of good and evil. But I will never change my opinion of Nazi evil and Zionist evil. Genocide is pure evil. Slavery is never justifiable. What is done to Muslim women in Muslim countries is evil — look at what’s happening in Iran. This rubbish about hijab being a ‘choice’ which in the west is made as a concession to Muslim culture, is condescending and patriarchal. It is unnatural, this thing about veils. Modesty, yes. A woman is not allowed to feel the wind ripple through her hair? We take so much for granted. It’s not a privilege of some kind to free one’s hair to whims of the wind! Female genital mutilation, though illegal now in Egypt, is still practiced. Some Nile valley diaspora here in usa force it on its girls. Violence against women cannot be dismissed as a ‘ cultural’ practice. Is ‘honor’ killing justifiable? So I think on basics there is no debate.
As for knowing oneself? Most of us don’t question enough. Cause and effect. What sculpts a personality. We go to our graves incomplete.
