I think consumerism is the totem/altar we Americans prostrate ourselves before.

Uberconsumerism begets violence of sorts. Why? Because we lose sight of what lies outside and beyond our own wants — rest of humanity. We have forgotten how to be humane. Not a soupçon of noblesse oblige. We have failed miserably at being the best of Homo sapiens sapiens.

I was neither born nor raised in america. But I grew into a firm belief in our constitution and bill of rights. Such wisdom! Such nobility! But we have squandered our souls, betrayed the very principles that was america. The shangri-la of my childhood.
