I see a growing number of American writers on Medium who are deeply concerned about the state of our country.

I’m happy there’s growing alarm, but who has solutions to address bigotry, shrinking incomes, sky-rocketing drug prices, third rate schooling, race and income divides, lack of universal healthcare, it’s a long list.

It’s paradoxical that despite the internet which is now a fact of life in most households, and you can google just about everything, Americans have been unable to break through the bubble of hubris and and rah rah of the American delusion, not dream. The rest of the world is not a reality for most of us. It’s a vague game being played by the bad guys out there.

The losses in human terms American families suffer, all the young ones who return from wars with only ptsd if they’re lucky, are unconscionable because unscrupulous politicians love wars and wars generate dollars for corporations. It’s all hand in glove.

But what can I say, my best friend voted for Trump. How can we be buddies if she wants a president who hates my color, gender, religion? Well, we aren’t good friends any more. Every time I see her face, my gut shrivels.
