I’d visit Delhi frequently to visit friends and vice versa. Now we maintain radio silence. Since they’re big in media and starkly against Modi doctrine, they were targeted, hounded into a merger with other companies.


Hindutva wants racial/ religious purity. Hence Arabic script has disappeared from the scene. Everything’s been sanskitized. I can hardly understand indian news on tv. It’s been cleansed of Urdu which I speak and in which many Hindu writers and poets wrote the most beautiful prose and poetry.
Many ask, why was Pakistan created? Discrimination against Muslims had taken root in a cohesive pluralist society in which all religions and cultures would celebrate each other’s religious occasions. My parents who never had to experience horrors of Partition having lived in west Punjab, would long for their Indian friends. My family has been in west Punjab for hundreds of years.
Today, both India and Pakistan have THE bomb. I’m strongly anti nukes. But deep down I feel it’s a deterrent to Modi’s expansionist dreams. And Pakistan has to behave well too! Seeing what’s happening to Muslims, I’m grateful for Pakistan run by generals. But they’re OUR generals! And America’s too. Puppets. Sigh.
