Were it not for altruism and compassion we would indeed be at a sad pass. Of course there are decent people who have these qualities. They crowd fund, donate to charities, help in homeless shelters and much much more. I have found kindness in unexpected places. But passivity, cruelty and ignorance much more than that.

You’re right, human trafficking continues unabated all over the world as do bonded labor and slavery. Places like Saudi Arabia allegedly have no human rights st all. And quite a bit of the Middle East.
