You’re right, it feels like a throwback it time. Such horror and injustice in this day and age!
When I was researching poetry forms, Karbala floated by. The parallel with it somehow made it stick. An unequal fight, with thirst and famine and humiliation of women, martyred children. We’re all feeling a profound outrage at Israel’s medieval behaviour. I had to write the poem!
