Great essay.

I’m reminded of the time I worked briefly for a USAID project in Pakistan as a consultant. I had all requisite attributes, and more — I had social connections — any consultant hired for similar work from usa. They were paid $1,000 a day. What was I paid as a local hiree? $100 a MONTH.

They were third raters. In Pakistan only because it was deemed a danger zone for Americans. They had hazard pay, travelled first class, lived in five star hotels had servants at their beck and call. So what is called AID, went right back to usa! For me, wage slavery. I might add all these ‘projects’ are US taxpayer $$$s! And foster corruption in the government.

So yes, we Americans are crafty that way.
