It’s Man’s Darkness, I Tell You!

~ Luna in a blue night ~

LUNA

Auspicious new moon

a sliver of silver

and hands cupped

we pray —

It’s atavistic urges

you see, kneaded

into iron

by a thousand

grandmothers from

hoary pagan days

We pray,

save the children

whose mothers are dead

far away…

Family whispers, Ameen.

It was a blue night

seedy backstreet hush

sliver of moon.

Saved from

those who steal,

Luna

bathed with moon

lady of whorly

tresses violated and

a pestilence of ticks!

We hold her.

She shivers

all bone

all cruel bone.

Soundless pleas —

don’t hurt me

ripped vocal cords
