For Ali Hassan Ayüb

who rode his motorcycle into the cosmos, all too soon

with the greatest of love

Go.

Go, child of light,

Do your work.

Coax seeds to fall

Water to sing.

Rites of purification are yours.

Be the knock on an old woman’s vigil

Pierce the wing of a dragonfly with flight,

Become the measure of joy

In a blind child’s eye.

Tired of your own light

You must rest. Shake off, love

The stony dew of memory —

Dip your firefly self in eternity.

Minerals and thorns of the desert will wait…
