Easy Twilight

spellbound by days slipping away…

When we met

By a strange twist of fate,

though actually not

strange at all

since that is what fate is

and that is what

I have come to understand

after crossing many bridges —

When we met,

the little girl in me

yearned for oh, a house of joy,

embrace of a family:

I was only a fledgling

with broken wings

I was too driven by

private demons,

too steeped in my own needs-

how could I then

address those of yours?

In trying to do so

I only added to our shared burdens.

You were artfully dodging

without really knowing it

the dreams and hopes a

patriarchal land

piles on her sons.

Rebellion

bubbled in you

like a hot sulfur spring
