Companion of a Million Years

~ when skies turn heretic ~

‘The Cosmos’ acrylic on canvas art by author

In the time

an autumn leaf

turns in the wind

you turned away.

And now,

my

companion of a million years,

I believe only

in the burin

and copperplate

manipulated by

thick hands of existence,

and worm-spaces

won by savage combat.

O companion of a million years,

whom I met

not so long ago

in the waist of an hourglass —

a million years are, oh!

billions of sighs,

murmurs and smiles,

and

you

breathed in each one.

And now

I believe only in

the end of time

and wish to hide

in the yellow eye of

a purple pansy,

whose soft

jowls tremble in a

twilight breeze…

O companion of a million years

i write i paint i dream i weep

and so I am
