Call me jaded, but a global vaccination plan is impossible in a tribal lop-sided capitalist world. The road to altruism is a long long one if not an impossible journey to undertake. The proverbial noble act or sentiment of ‘thy need is greater than mine’ is asking for too much!
The only possibility of a global effort by rich nations would be for selfish reasons. Self-preservation which comes naturally to life forms, in the case of vaccinations, is missing in rich countries. Protect yourself by protecting others is a highly-evolved concept. Travel bans from less fortunate countries seems to be the solution for us here. Let the teeming millions perish.
The ability to manufacture, store and distribute fragile vaccine is sadly lacking in most of the world, though in my country Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson etc are quite big. The infrastructure simply does not allow for it.
Still and all, a good essay!
