Back in February, I got covid. For a month I was isolated and slowly recovered. Subsequently I found myself struggling to find words ( I’m a poet ) and thought I was getting dementia. I was very familiar with brain fog — I caught Lyme disease in 1992 when very little was known about it. Since I read a lot about medical research, I knew what I had was Lyme. I begged my doc to prescribe Doxycycline which he did very reluctantly. That saved my life. Still, co-infections ravaged my system. After a month of testing NIH finally confirmed I had Lyme. But Doctors gaslighted me. As did family when I shared the mystery of mind fog with them. Ah it’s been a challenge.
Add to that covid mind fog! Lol!
I still read a lot and consciously build up a reservoir of vocabulary. It’s frustrating. Perseverance is the key I think. So battle on, brave people! Exercise, hydrate and eat. Keep a journal. Read. Yoga helps. Practice gratitude. And stay in the moment. Give your brain a break by not taxing it. Not everything needs to be retained!
Excellent article. Thanks.
