As a schoolgirl with dreams of a utopian usa I read about Black Panthers.
The dream was fast excised out of my system. The scales fell from my eyes. The beautiful Angela Davis wowed a whole generation halfway around the globe. Such fire and enlightenment! Fighting a system of organized apartheid. Malcolm X we all fell in love with. And such sorrow when in horror we saw, one by one freedom fighters gunned down. Jack Kennedy, Bobby, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X … and others I forget.
Slavery never ended. Today, black community is still brutalized, discriminated against, and marginalized. I’m an American now. And what I see turns my stomach. Complicity in genocide, not covert as in erstwhile meddling but in our faces.
The west lives under the mistaken notion that we of the East live in trees or are troglodytes.
Colonialism did a number on us and are still reeling.
Unfortunately, British trained underlings inherited Pakistan and soon capitulation to a new master— America — has turned the country into a failed state. Long story.
