Sigh. I’m wondering why Nikki H deserves to be written about so eloquently.

I’m subcontinental. American. For 40+ years in Washington DC area, which is a ‘cosmopolitan’ bubble, I HAVE experienced shocking racism and micro aggressions. In suburbia mind you. I discovered McMansions are noooo indication of enlightenment. From senior citizens to pimply high schoolers, came all sorts of remarks. My kids came home crying. I dared not wear my beautiful billowy traditional clothes for fear of nasty comments in a premier mall. White ‘friends’ patronized me. I’m not a Hijab person. Nor very religious. But my color and affluence offended white supremacists.
When I saw inner city squalor and a culture of apartheid, open hostility towards the black community I couldn’t believe it. When I saw blatant discrimination, police brutality towards black youth I hated America. By far the most horrible kind of open hatred towards color and culture. I wanted to run away. And I did. America the fascist state. My broken dream.

My child attended a very white very prestigious school. As it turned out, very ignorant too. A teacher saw tiny white flakes in his black hair. He was pulled immediately from class and ISOLATED for hours. No water. No food. LICE! Horrors. Ugh. I was busy at work. He was not allowed on the bus to go home. I went to pick him up. I was alarmed. A patronizing principal told me your son has LICE! Eggs. Nits. Idiots. They were tiny DANDRUFF flakes! My child utterly traumatized. I pulled him out naturally.
Should’ve sued the damn school but being brown and intimidated, kept silent. Such appalling ignorance for which I paid top dollar.
Just a fun story.

Now Nikki. I’m ashamed to be American now most of the time. Once I was proud.
I cannot abide her. Hiding being brown. She’s a posturer and a fascist and doesn’t
deserve a jot of attention she gets. Frankly I gag.
What happened to us??
