Don’t hurl questions at me

why hunger

why dead forests

why crepuscular sorrow

man’s rapacity

a garroted woman

a trashcanned child

why visas matter

don’t ask why

my shambolic life of

hypnagogic hours

follows me beyond

where years lie like discarded lovers

and why should it matter

the planet is cinders, my planet

my only love

who smothered a happy me.

Like a dream lover,

wanted nothing in return.

Who burns a gold-edged tome,

sacred, really,

pregnant with duende and tears,

thrills and fears and oh!

embarrassments of braggadocio

flash fictions, what was I thinking!

love in abandoned buildings

moldy bread and jam,

and it was heaven —
