Actually meri jaan, america is responsible for the rise of mediocrity in what passes for the general body American literature. With the exceptions of a few stellar writers like Anthony Doerr( “ All the Light We Cannot See” etc god, how I love this man!) and Andrea Barrett, most of what I’ve read is chaff. And yes, I’m opinionated!
I loathe America’s veneer of love for fiction writing by immigrants from the subcontinent. Exotica- ugh. I haven’t read much by other diaspora. America’s lip service to inclusion by rah rahing the banal spouted by the immigrant experience.
You are an outstanding human being and writer. Don’t let Louise and her ilk destabilize you. Covid isolation has triggered the critics in our own heads. It’ll pass. Hold on to the fire, warrior!
Thanks for this shove. A bit of a rant. But. Look at me, I’m writing again!!!
